Hungarian Grandmothers

To be old is not just to feel so close the end of the life, but brings some unexplainable calmness, peace of mind, love and wisdom. During a whole life people collect and keep different style objects, paintings on the wall, chinas in the cupboard, photos of the family members. In a Hungarian grandmother’s home these things are very specific, because we can find all the style of the different ages, historical situations.
We can see valuable family heritage items and the Eastern European style furniture and objects from 40 years of communism, like in a museum. We are in the 21st century now, but the interior furnishing, the decorating and the clothes never changed, mainly because of financial reasons. This mixture of valuable and cheap things, that is so common and a typical scenery in Hungary, tells a lot about the life of these lovely grandmothers. This photoseries has also been published as a calendar: Hungarian Grandmothers 2008.

Szilvia Mucsy was born in Budapest 1973, lives and works there today.
